Peugeot to launch latest i-Cockpit in new 3008

Peugeot has released details and images for its next-generation i-Cockpit interior layout, which will debut on the new 3008 family car coming this summer.

The layout of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit has been significantly reworked in order to incorporate a new 12.3-inch TFT display behind the steering wheel, plus an eight-inch touchscreen and eight primary buttons found on the car’s centre console.

New Audi-like display

Peugeot’s new TFT display behind the wheel is reminiscent of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, incorporating a similar menu design. However, Peugeot’s design has unique graphics and five customisable displays.

Using controls on the steering wheel itself, drivers can change the view on the TFT display to show sat-nav details or drive assist displays, with the current speed and revs pushed to corners on the screen. Alternatively, the speed and revs can be made prominent in a more conventional instrument layout.

The new i-Cockpit will also allow passengers to view 3D sat-nav maps on the eight-inch touchscreen. Sat-nav is standard for the upcoming new Peugeot 3008 and supports live traffic updates.

Driver preferences are also accessed via the touchscreen, with options for lighting, seat massage settings and even cockpit fragrance. Different profiles can be created to suit the preferences of different drivers and passengers, and these profiles can be accessed from one of the buttons on the centre console.

Smartphone support

Other buttons on the centre console can be used for quick access to other features like the climate control, Bluetooth and heated seats. Smartphone connectivity via Android Auto, MirrorLink or Apple CarPlay is also supported in the new Peugeot i-Cockpit.

Peugeot also reveals that the new i-Cockpit has an updated version of the engine noise amplifier introduced by the 308 last year. This feature plays a digital sound through the car’s speakers to artificially enhance engine noise, and the new version in the 3008 is said to sound more authentic.

While the 3008 will debut the new i-Cockpit, the facelifted Peugeot 2008, due out this spring, will make do with the previous-generation design for the cabin.
