Volvo Group’s performance brand Polestar has revealed its first car, the Polestar 1, as well as plans for two further models.

The combined power of the combustion engine and electric motor make 592bhp and 1000Nm of torque, placing this in the performance car market. The electric range is a quoted 93 miles.

A world-first for the Polestar 1 is the Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension, which is the base chassis and is paired with a carbon fibre body to keep weight down and lower the centre of gravity for improved cornering.

With the models due to be produced in China, Polestar won’t be offering the vehicles in through a conventional buying service. All the cars will be ordered online and offered on a subscription contract, instead of buying outright.

Polestar also confirmed that its Polestar 2 model will be its first all-electric vehicle and modelled as a mid-size unit, while the Polestar 3 will be an all-electric SUV.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, said: “Polestar 1 is the first car to carry the Polestar on the bonnet. A beautiful GT with amazing technology packed into it – a great start for our new Polestar brand.

“All future cars from Polestar will feature a fully electric drivetrain, delivering on our brand vision of being the new standalone electric performance brand.”
