Porsche takes covers off new 911 GT3 RS

Porsche 911 GT3 RS breaks cover

The latest version of the race-inspired sports car is the third-most ferocious road car Porsche makes, and the 911 GT3 RS comes with 513bhp.

German sports car specialist Porsche has unveiled the latest version of the 911 GT3 RS – now the brand’s third-most potent model.

Only behind the recently-introduced GT2 RS and Turbo S Exclusive Series in terms of overall performance, the latest iteration of the GT3 RS is fitted with a naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six-cylinder engine.

That same unit is fitted to the marginally calmer GT3, but here it produces 20bhp more – 513bhp in total – meaning more ferocious performance. The sprint to 60mph is over in three seconds flat, and the GT3 RS can reach a top speed of 194mph – with the car fitted with a specially-engineered seven-speed automatic PDK transmission.

The motorsport-inspired model comes with plenty of aerodynamic tweaks to make it look more aggressive – including the fixed rear wing, louvres on the wheelarches and large air intakes on the grille and bonnet.

Compared to the GT3, the RS version is more slimmed-down with lightweight panels all around, fixed carbon-fibre racing seats and reduced sound deadening.

Customers can choose to make it lighter with the optional Weissach package for no extra cost, which adds lighter magnesium wheels and carbon-fibre parts throughout the model – leading to an overall weight of just 1,430kg.

A Clubsport pack is also available free of charge, which adds a roll cage, fire extinguisher, six-point harnesses and electrical disconnect switches – for the people who think they’ll be on the track more often than not in their GT3 RS.

This latest version will be publically unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and prices will start from £141,346. German customers will get the model first in mid-April, with UK buyers getting theirs shortly afterwards.
