Porsche introduces plug-in hybrid to Cayenne range

The sporty SUV is joining the brand’s hybrid line-up and it comes with 27 miles of electric range as well as improved fuel consumption.

Porsche has released details of the latest addition to its plug-in hybrid line-up, with the new Cayenne now employing an electrified powertrain.

The large SUV will now be available with a plug-in option and the setup combines a3.00-litre V6 petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a combined 455bhp and 700Nm of torque.

All of that torque will be available from idle thanks to the nature of the 918 Spyder-inspired powertrain, meaning instantaneous acceleration. The sprint to 60mph is over in 4.8 seconds and its top speed is 157mph.

In all-electric mode, the Cayenne E-Hybrid can travel 27 miles and reach a top speed of 83mph, and to ensure fast gear changes and smooth driving, Porsche fits its latest Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission. It also comes with all-wheel drive.

Although the Cayenne E-Hybrid will come with much of the same equipment as the standard version, Porsche will offer the new model with a head-up display – a brand first – as well as 22-inch alloy wheels, massaging seats, a heated windscreen and independent heating with remote operation. Those features will be available on the rest of the Cayenne range in due course.
