Porsche reveals lightweight 911 Carrera T

This 911 is inspired by the 911 T from 1968 and is lighter than the standard model to improve performance, rather than adding power

Porsche has unveiled the latest version of its 911 Carrera that is lighter and offers more performance than the standard model.

Called the 911 Carrera Touring, it comes with the same 3.0-litre flat-six engine found in the standard model that produces 365bhp but this model is 20kg lighter and comes with extra kit to improve overall performance.

With a manual transmission, its 0-60mph time is 4.3 seconds – 0.1 seconds faster than the standard model – and features a top speed of more than 180mph. The optional automatic transmission means a marginally faster acceleration to 60mph, but takes away the involved driving experience the manual gearbox offers.

With Porsche adding lightweight glass and taking away much of the sound proofing as well as the rear seats and communication system, this car is built to offer an involving, visceral driving experience that harks back to older Porsche models. The seats and communicate system can be added back in at no cost.

Fitted with Porsche’s sports chassis, a lower ride height, Sport-Chrono package and shorter gear shift, this car is built to be even more dynamic than the standard edition.

It can also be distinguished from the normal version thanks to the sportier exterior design, such as a new front splitter, sports exhaust system and distinct ‘911 Carrera T’ decals. You also get 20-inch Carrera S wheels with Michelin Cup tyres.

Inside is quite refined with black sports seats with ‘911’ stitched into the headrest, GT sports leather steering wheel and contrasting colour trim for the seats, seatbelts and door finish.

Available to order now for upwards of £95,000, deliveries will begin in January 2018.
