The Renault Twingo GT, the go-faster version of the French manufacturer’s popular Twingo city car, will go on sale in the UK from the 1st December, priced from £13,755.
In its market segment, the Twingo is unique in that it uses a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive powertrain layout, something which is usually reserved for sports cars like the Porsche 911.
Renault says that the reason for this was to decrease the car’s turning circle for navigating tight streets, but fans have been calling for a faster, sportier version since it was first introduced.
As a result, the GT gets an extra 20bhp over the standard Twingo courtesy of a remap and a modified turbocharger, plus a larger twin-exit exhaust and a side-mounted cold air intake.
The Twingo GT therefore packs a maximum output of 109bhp and can scamper from 0-62mph in 9.6 seconds thanks to a revised gearbox with shorter ratios.
Still not mega-fast, then, but the car also boasts tweaked sports suspension with stiffer dampers and a bigger anti-roll bar, plus 17-inch alloys as standard and a 20mm reduction in ride height.
To further differentiate it from the standard Twingo, the GT features a widened body kit and a rear diffuser, plus tinted rear windows and a choice of four stand-out colours.
All versions get the same racing car-style stripes, plus orange interior details on the part-leather seats and the option of a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with TomTom sat-nav.
