Renault announces pricing for new Clio Hybrid and Captur Plug-in Hybrid

The two new models are Renault’s first E-Tech hybrid cars

Renault has announced pricing and further details about its new Clio Hybrid supermini and Captur Plug-in Hybrid crossover.

The two new models, which are Renault’s first hybrids and are based on two of the firm’s most popular cars, receive light and subtle styling tweaks over regular petrol and diesel versions of the Clio and Captur.

The Captur PHEV mates a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and 9.8kWh battery to produce a combined 158bhp. Renault claims it can travel for 30 miles on electricity alone at speeds of up to 84mph, which allows for CO2 emissions of 33g/km and a fuel economy figure of 188.3mpg. Dedicated ‘Multi-Sense’ driving modes also let you choose how you want to use the electricity – including Sport (the most power), Pure (just electric) and E-Save (holds charge).

Prices for the Captur Plug-in Hybrid start from £30,495, and it’s available in either S Edition trim or a ‘Launch Edition’ grade. Standard kit includes 17-inch alloys, a 9.3-inch, a 10-inch digital cockpit and a reversing camera to name but a few features.

The Launch Edition only adds an extra £500 to the price, and adds larger 18-inch alloys, blue and white styling cues and a white dashboard. All Captur PHEVs are supplied with a free 7kW wallbox to charge at home with, too.

Unlike the Captur, the Clio is a regular hybrid, and mates the same 1.6-litre petrol engine together with a pair of electric motors and a battery. It’s one of the most advanced hybrids of its kind, and it can travel on electric at speeds up to 38mph - many self-charging hybrid models can barely go into double figures on electric. It’s fitted alongside a clutchless automatic transmission.

It produces 138bhp, which makes it the most powerful Clio available, but it’s the efficiency where it impresses – with CO2 emissions of 98g/km, and a claimed economy figure of 64.2mpg.

Unlike the Captur, the Clio Hybrid is available with the same trims as the regular car, with prices starting from £19,595 and rising to £22,095 for the R.S. Line and Launch Edition models.
