Skoda builds its millionth vehicle of 2018

The Czech brand has had a record-breaking year, and has now produced its millionth car of the year quicker than ever.

Skoda has announced that it has built its one millionth vehicle of 2018, which was a Fabia 1.0-litre TSI in Moon White.

This is the fifth year in a row that the brand has surpassed the million mark – with 2018 marking the earliest point in the year when the milestone was surpassed.

The landmark model was built at the Mladá Boleslav plant in the Czech Republic and the Fabia is Skoda’s second most popular model in 2018 so far, after it received a mild refresh. Only the Octavia has had more orders.

Skoda has also put the success of 2018 down to the increasing popularity of its SUV models – the Karoq and Kodiaq in Europe and the Kamiq in China. Skoda has also added the Kodiaq GT to its SUV line-up, which is also a China exclusive.

Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda board member for production and logistics, said: “The current financial year shows that a modern model range allows Skoda to tap into new customer segments in international markets in a sustainable way.

“In recent years, we have consistently increased our production and sales, and we are now surpassing the one-million mark for an impressive fifth time in a row. We’re going to continue our growth strategy in 2019. Here, an important role is going to be played by the new Skoda Scala – a vehicle in the high-volume A segment that we have added to our portfolio.”
