Skoda continues police car tradition with blue light Fabia

The Fabia has been in use by police forces for many years

Skoda has continued a decades-old tradition by creating a version of its Fabia for use by UK police forces.

The Fabia has been a popular choice among police forces up and down the country ever since the first generation was introduced.

The most recent model was launched earlier this year, bringing a more refined character as well as the addition of efficient engines. This police version has been specially adapted with a 360-degree lighting system and full integration of the emergency services’ communication system into the Fabia’s existing infotainment.

This integration means that officers can control aspects such as the lighting and siren through one central platform, instead of going via different control panels.

The Fabia is available with a wide variety of petrol engines, with outputs ranging from 79 to 148bhp. The range-topping Monte Carlo version can manage the 0-60mph sprint in eight seconds and top out at 139mph thanks to a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 148bhp.

It’s also packed with technology, with a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit display and a central 9.2-inch touchscreen combining to create a particularly futuristic-feeling place to be.

But Skoda has ensured that the Fabia remains as practical as ever. It has a 380-litre boot - the largest of any car in the segment - and this can be increased to 1,190 litres by folding the rear seats flat.

The Fabia was also given a full five stars in recent Euro NCAP safety tests, with testers praising the hatchback’s suite of safety aids such as front and lane assist systems. It also has up to nine airbags, while features such as LED headlights come as standard.

The Skoda Fabia has been converted via the firm’s ‘one stop shop’ service, which allows models to be customised depending on the specific needs of emergency services.
