Skoda Kodiaq wins 2018 Towcar of the Year

The large SUV won three gongs from the 2018 Caravan and Motorhome Club’s awards

The Skoda Kodiaq has been awarded the 2018 Towcar of the Year award, presented by the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

It was one of three awards won by the Czech manufacturer’s large SUV, as well as its weight and price categories, making it a comprehensive clean-sweep for the Kodiaq.

2017 Skoda Kodiaq Towcar Large SUV

Tested in the SE L guise, the Kodiaq was fitted with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel and paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. That meant it was eligible for the £33,000-£38,000 price category and All-Wheel Drive Under 1800kg section.

Despite only being released to buyers in March, the Kodiaq won over the judges after rigorous testing at the Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire, and all factors were considered – including towing capabilities and driving performance.

After awarding the Kodiaq with the overall prize, the judging committee said: “Skoda has once again built a fantastic, no nonsense, utterly awesome towcar. The Kodiaq put in one of the best performances of the competition. Relaxing, stable, dependable, comfortable touring at its best.”

2017 Skoda Octavia Scout Estate

It was also a successful night for the Octavia Scout, which won the prize for the best towcar prized between £26,000 and £30,000.

Commending the Octavia Scout, the judges said: “The two-litre turbodiesel engine delivered power and acceleration seamlessly all the way. Traction, handling, driver comfort and ergonomics and the ‘confidence-inspiring’ brakes all received high marks.”

The Skoda Kodiaq has a starting price of £22,190, while the Octavia Scout starts from £26,685.
