Take a look at the 2017 Honda Civic hatchback

Honda has released images and details of the all-new Civic hatchback, ahead of its first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show later this month. This is the tenth-generation of the Civic and it will launch in the UK early next year.

Initially launching as a five-door hatchback, the new Civic will also offer Tourer estate and Type R hot hatch variants and production will take place at Honda’s Swindon plant, much like the current Civic. Although certain markets including the US are offering salon and three-door hatch variants, neither of these particular body styles will come to the UK.

More spacious, less conventional dials

Longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, the new Civic hatchback has a sportier look than before especially in the Sport trim which is carried over from the previous Civic.

Even with the lower roofline, the new Civic has a roomier interior thanks to the wheelbase being stretched by 30mm. Around the dashboard, the conventional dials have been replaced by a TFT screen which can be used to show all kinds including current speed, fuel economy, media functions and sat-nav display.

Boot space is measured at 478 litres, which is significantly more than rivals like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf hatchbacks.

New turbo engines

Engines for the new Civic hatchback will include a couple of all-new turbocharged petrol units, though no diesel will be available initially. Available will be a 127bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo, mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox and CVT automatic ‘box. Then there’s a 180bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo with the same gearbox options.

A 1.6-litre diesel with a nine-speed automatic gearbox is expected to be added to the rangeat a later date.
