The Maserati Alfieri is coming! Here’s what to expect

The Italian firm will be introducing an all-new 2+2 coupe next year. Here is what we know about the model so far.

To refresh its range of stylish and much sought-after vehicles, Maserati is introducing an all-new model – the Alfieri.

First seen as a concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the Italian marque has finally decided to bring the model to market – after initially stating it would go on sale in 2016.

But what can we expect from the sleek new model and when can we expect to see it on sale?

How will it look?

It’s expected that the model will look very similar to the concept first displayed five years ago, with the coupe taking styling hints from the 1954 Maserati A6 GCS/54 – a model drawn up by famous Italian design house Pininfarina.

The Alfieri will feature Maserati’s trademark grille alongside sleek headlights and emphasised wheel arches – as well as a series of other sharp lines around the car.

It won’t strictly be a two-seater either, with two additional seats likely to be fitted in the rear – although don’t expect it to be the most spacious in the back.

Maserati is also likely to offer the Alfieri as a soft-top, with the two models set to replace the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

What will be under the bonnet?

When first revealed, Maserati said that a Ferrari-sourced V8 will be used as the more conventional power option, while a smaller petrol V6 will likely be introduced for the entry-level car. Both would offer potent performance and develop in excess of 410bhp.

However, as the car world has moved towards electrification, it’s likely that Maserati will too. Both a plug-in hybrid and an all-electric model are set to be used in the Alfieri – providing more environmentally-friendly options for the stylish grand tourer. The hybrid is set to employ a V6 alongside the electric power, while the all-electric model will be able to get to 60mph from a standstill in less than two seconds.

When can we expect to see it?

It’s unlikely that Maserati will take the covers off the production version before the year is out – so expect a 2020 reveal, with the Geneva Motor Show the perfect platform to display the model for the first time.

It is set to feature a high-tech cabin, with a digital instrument display, a simplistic layout and high-quality materials used to make the Alfieri a credible coupe option at the pricier end of the market.
