Top Gear: Matt LeBlanc to leave if Chris Evans isn't fired

Top Gear host Matt LeBlanc is reportedly planning on leaving the BBC 2 motoring show unless Chris Evans is fired, sources have claimed.

The source says that the 48-year old ex-Friends star is allegedly concerned about Evans’ rudeness towards other members of the Top Gear team and suggested he’s frustrating to film with.

Speaking to the Sun on Sunday, an unnamed source who claims to be involved with the show, said: “Matt’s indicated he won’t continue on any further series if Chris remains. He is far from the only one who is not happy.

Latest blow for new Top Gear

This is the latest blow for the revamped Top Gear, which has struggled with a rapidly declining audience that’s seen viewership figures nosedive to an all-time low of just 2.34 million watchers.

Evans has been consistently criticised by viewers and the press alike for his presentation style, while rumours of his alleged backstage misconduct have persisted since filming began.

Last year, Top Gear’s former executive producer Lisa Clark quit over claims about the host’s “tyrannical” behaviour, and rumours have also been circulated about his relationship with LeBlanc.

BBC 'will not comment'

Earlier this month it was announced that Evans would have his screen time on the motoring show significantly dialled back in response, with co-hosts Chris Harris and Rory Reid taking his place.

However, the BBC has said that it will not comment on the claims and a spokesman for LeBlanc denied the claims and simply said that there have been “no discussions”.
