Toyota Yaris Hybrid range adds Sport model

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid has been expanded with the introduction of Active and Sport trim level versions. Both models are on sale now in Britain.

This update means that the hybrid version of the five-door Toyota Yaris supermini is now available for all four of the car’s existing trim levels. While Active represents the new entry-level trim for the Yaris Hybrid, the Sport sits at the other end of the car’s line-up.

In either trim, the Yaris Hybrid continues to combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a total output of 100bhp.

The new Yaris Hybrid Active, priced from £14,995, comes with electric front windows, split-folding rear seats, a trip computer and dual-zone climate control as standard. The official combined fuel economy is 85.6mpg and CO2 emissions are recorded at just 75g/km. That low CO2 figure means zero Vehicle Excise Duty and exemption from the London Congestion charge.

Pricing for the range-topping Sport trim begins at £16,695 and adds a lot more standard kit. The list includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, front and rear electric windows, Bluetooth connectivity and a multimedia system with a touchscreen and DAB radio.

Because it runs on larger wheels than the Active trim, the Sport version is slightly less efficient in comparison. It instead records 78.5mpg combined and has a CO2 output of 82g/km - therefore it is not exempt from the London Congestion charge, but it still benefits from zero Vehicle Excise Duty.
