TVR's new model sells out in just six weeks

TVR has already sold out of its first new model, just six weeks after order books open and two whole years before the car is due to go on sale.

The reinvigorated Blackpool-based sports car brand, which announced its return to the market in June after a decade-long hiatus, started taking deposits for the first of four planned new cars.

Designed by Gordon Murray, the man behind the legendary McLaren F1, the first new TVR will be powered by a Cosworth V8 and is due to arrive in 2017, priced from around £55,000.

A total of 250 deposits of £5,000 each have already been taken according to the manufacturer, filling the books until the end of 2017 before the first pictures of the car have even been released.

Currently, deposits for the new car are still being taken, but TVR has said that any orders placed now won’t arrive with buyers until 2018 at the earliest as its factory increases production in the next few years.

John Chasey, TVR’s operation’s director, said: “The new factory will be ramping up production during 2017 and therefore initial volumes are limited. It’s only fair to make potential customers aware that any new orders will now be delivered in early 2018.”

This is just a small part in TVR’s ongoing plan, however, as the company reportedly has a 10-year strategy in the works that will see at least four new models on the road from 2017, with more following.

Backed by Cosworth and Gordon Murray Design, TVR is aiming to firmly re-establish itself as the same performance-focused brand it was when it ceased production back in 2006.

Mr Chasey added: “This is a unique opportunity to be part of the revival of a great British marque. We are a well-funded, well-supported organisation that boasts a vastly experienced management team and a clear 10-year master plan for both product and business development.”

Little is known yet about TVR’s new range of models or its long-term plans, but more is expected to be revealed in the coming months ahead of its 2017 debut.
