Volkswagen has revealed pricing for the upcoming Volkswagen up! GTI, which goes on sale from February 6.
The performance-focused city car will be available in both three- and five-door versions, starting at £13,750 and £14,150 respectively. Deliveries are also expected to begin at the end of February.
The up! GTI is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 113bhp and 200Nm of torque — capable of taking the car from 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds and up to a top speed of 122mph. This power is sent to the front-wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
As for fuel efficiency, Volkswagen claims the car can deliver 49.6mpg to 50.4mpg depending on the spec, while CO2 emissions range from 127 to 129g/km.
The up! GTI is a hark back to the very first Volkswagen Golf GTI — which was revealed in 1975. Specs of the two cars are similar despite a 43-year gap between them. The original hot-hatch had 108bhp from its four-pot engine, allowing for an 8.8 second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 113mph. Although the up! has slightly more power, the Golf weighed a mere 810kg compared with the new car’s 997kg.
