Before taking the covers off the full car, Renault has unveiled the interior of the fifth generation Clio, which is set to be shown for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The French brand has given the popular supermini a fully reworked interior that incorporates two large screens for the infotainment and instrumentation.
Renault also says that the new cabin design is inspired by all previous generations of the Clio in one form or another, with the company coining the phrase ‘Evolution and Revolution’ to describe it.
Dubbed the ‘Smart Cockpit’, the interior features more premium materials than before, while the central 9.3-inch portrait touchscreen is the largest ever fitted to a Renault. All the major controls and displays are slightly angled towards the driver for a more involving experience behind the wheel, with the 10-inch TFT display in the instrument binnacle able to show the satellite navigation instructions.
Renault has also added more controls the steering wheel to help simplify the cabin elsewhere, while the gear shifter has been raised and shortened so that it is in a more comfortable position.

The French brand also confirmed that the new Clio will be the first electrified model it offers, as the Clio V will feature the E-Tech hybrid engine. 11 other models will be electrified by 2022.
Renault senior vice president for corporate design, Laurens van den Acker, said: “The fifth generation Clio is very important for us as it is the best-seller in its segment and the second best-selling car in Europe, all categories combined.
“The Clio is an icon, and the latest features the very best of the previous generations. The exterior design of Clio IV won over our customers and continues to do so today, so we chose to keep that DNA while bringing modernity and elegance to the new model.
“The interior has undergone a true revolution, with a considerable improvement in perceived quality, greater sophistication and technology. It is the best Clio yet.”
