Vauxhall teases glimpse at new GT sports concept

Vauxhall has revealed the first look at an all-new sports car concept that’s due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the GT.

Though solid details are currently under wraps, Vauxhall has released a new preview video which features CEO Dr Karl-Thomas Neumann presenting the first look at the surprise concept.

The GT features dual exhausts plus bright red tyres that are apparently a homage to the Motoclub 500, an unusual motorcycle with red rubber that was made by Vauxhall parent Opel in 1928.

Dual exhaust, red tyres

A homage in themselves, the central twin exhausts were a feature common to ground-breaking concept cars from Vauxhall and Opel in the mid-1960s, including the 1966 Vauxhall XVR.

Unveiled in Geneva 50 years ago, the XVR was in its time ultra-modern, minimalistic and uncompromising, with a sculptural design and a gladius-shaped front nose.

According to Vauxhall, other elements of the XVR’s appearance and philosophy will also carry over into the new GT concept, though more is expected to be known upon its debut in March.

History of the GT badge

The GT badge has in the past also been applied to small coupes produced by Opel in the 60s and 70s, and most recently resurfaced on the Opel GT Roadster from 2007.

With all that in mind, it’s possible that Vauxhall’s shock entry to the Geneva show could become a production model in the future, though it’s unlikely the red tyres will make it to the production line.
