Volkswagen has broadened its engine options for the new Multivan with the introduction of a diesel variant.
The new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel unit produces 148bhp and is linked to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox sending power to the front wheels. It uses SCR catalytic converters and a twin AdBlue injection system to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 80 per cent, with this technology also helping to lower CO2 emissions and boost engine responsiveness. There’s 360Nm of torque to take advantage of, too.
Plus, the Multivan’s low drag co-efficient - compared with its Caravelle predecessor - means that it can offer much-improved fuel consumption. Combined with a 58-litre fuel tank, Volkswagen claims that the Multivan diesel could travel for up to 620 miles without the need to fill up. It’s also rated to tow trailers with a weight of up to 2,000kg.
Prices for the new diesel Multivan start from £44,410 in standard wheelbase, ‘Life’ specification, rising to £46,100 for the same model in long-wheelbase layout. Upgrade to Style trim and the price increases to £54,950 for the standard model and £56,300 for the long wheelbase.
