Volkswagen adds new diesel engine to Touareg range

The 228bhp option is based on the 3.0-litre V6 used from the vehicle’s launch and is paired to an eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive.

Volkswagen has extended the power options of the new Touareg by adding a lower-powered option in the guise of a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel.

Sitting underneath the 282bhp unit that came with the vehicle at launch, the new 228bhp option is a cheaper alternative with prices starting from £48,995 - £2,600 less than the top-end engine.

With the lower-powered unit fitted, the Touareg can get from 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds and go on to a top speed of 135mph.

Meeting the Euro6 engine regulations, the 228bhp unit has the same emissions as the higher-powered option of 173g/km but has an improved fuel return of a quoted 42.8mpg.
