Volkswagen announces pricing for new Caddy van

The firm’s most affordable commercial vehicle is available fro £17,800

Volkswagen has announced that its new Caddy van will be available from £17,800 when first deliveries start next year.

The new Caddy is a far more modern van than its predecessor, which had been around since 2004, with the new compact commercial being fitted with more efficient engines, more driver assistance technology and enhanced safety kit. It’s also more spacious than the vehicle it replaces and becomes the first van in its class available with a digital cockpit.

It will launch with the choice of two wheelbase options – the standard Caddy Cargo and the longer Maxi.

The standard model is 93mm longer than its predecessor, as well as wider, which means a Euro pallet can now be fitted sideways in the back of the van. The Maxi model is 21mm longer, and offers room for two Euro pallets.

New safety technology includes Travel Assist and Trailer Assist, while an integrated eSI allows the Caddy to make emergency calls in the event of an accident.

At launch the Caddy is available with the choice of a 112bhp 1.5-litre petrol option, along with a 2.0-litre diesel available with outputs of 74bhp, 101bhp and 120bhp. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are available, while four-wheel-drive is available on the most powerful diesel.

Prices for the Caddy start from £17,800 (excluding VAT), with standard equipment including electric windows, a 6.5-inch touchscreen and electric handbrake, with mid-spec models (costing from £19,275) bringing climate control, body-coloured bumpers and rear parking sensors. Top-spec Caddy Cargos (from £22,075) feature  a larger 10-inch touchscreen, LED rear lights and alloy wheels.

The Caddy Cargo will be available to order in December, with first deliveries expected in March next year.
