To commemorate the 30thanniversary of the California campervan, Volkswagen has unveiled the 30 Years Special Edition.
The limited-run vehicle comes with a unique specification that is based on the Ocean trim – with only 30 of the 999 units coming to the UK.
To distinguish it from the rest of the California range, the 30 Years model comes with full LED headlights, a removable towbar and a contrasting roof and mirror caps, as well as a numbered plaque on the B-pillar.
Customers can choose from silver and metallic grey for the contrasting elements, with Volkswagen also offering Turmeric Yellow as a body colour for the first time on the California.
Inside, customers will find a touchscreen infotainment system, front and rear parking sensors, side scan lane assist, cruise control and heated front seats. The infotainment system runs VW’s App Connect setup, which allows users to connect their smartphones.

Three powertrain setups are available – all of which are based on the 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine and paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. Power options of 148bhp and 197bhp are on offer, with a 4Motion version of the 199bhp powertrain also available.
Prices for the 30 Years Special Edition start from £64,307, with potential customers able to order now.
Currently on the fourth generation, the Transporter-based California has been on sale since 1988. The Transporter T6 is currently the base for the premium campervan, which was released back in 2015 in this guise.
