Volkswagen has launched a new Black Edition trim for its popular T-Cross compact SUV, bringing a more menacing look and additional standard equipment to the model.
Based on the mid-spec SE trim, the Black Edition is singled out by its black roof rails and door mirrors, while also getting the darkened treatment for its grille and front bumper. It also comes with a set of larger set of black 17-inch alloy wheels, along with tinted rear windows and LED headlights.
Inside, it comes with a gloss black and grey dashboard trim, along with black sports seats. Front and rear parking sensors are also included, on top of the regular SE version’s already long list of standard equipment, which includes an eight-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control and automatic lights and wipers.
Urano Grey is the standard colour on the Black Edition, though the full range of shades is available, including brighter options like Makena Turquoise and Energetic Orange.
Buyers can choose between two turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engines, which are available with outputs of 94bhp or 108bhp. The former comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, though a sixth gear comes on the more powerful option, along with the choice of a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen says the T-Cross Black Edition’s features add up to over £2,000 more than the SE, though it only costs buyers an extra £500. It’s available from £21,035, rising to £23,300 for the DSG automatic model.
