Varying from small, low-cost city cars up to premium SUVs and everything in between, Volkswagen’s line-up of cars will likely offer a model that fulfils your requirements.
Though you’re likely familiar with long-running VWs like the Polo and Golf, the line-up has had important new additions in recent years. Let’s take a look at the new Volkswagen cars you can buy today.
Up! – from £14,070
Volkswagen’s Up! city car has now been on sale for more than a decade, but even against much newer competition, it’s still able to hold its own.
Perfect for new drivers or those wanting an affordable runabout that will be cheap to run, the Up! is easy to drive, smart to look at and roomier than you might expect. Available with three or five doors, you can also choose a GTI version that’s the UK’s most affordable hot hatch.
Polo – from £19,030
The Polo will have soon been around for 50 years, but this supermini keeps getting better with age. An impressive all-rounder considering its price, the Polo is good to drive, practical and has a very pleasant interior.
An ideal small family car, the Polo is available with a range of frugal petrol engines alongside a 201bhp GTI hot hatch version.
Golf – from £25,610
Volkswagen’s best-loved model remains as appealing as ever, with the latest Golf being packed full of technology, yet remaining as practical, comfortable and well-built as it’s always been.
The key draw to the Golf, however, is the sheer choice of versions available, from lower-cost petrol options to plug-in hybrids and the all-wheel-drive ‘R’ hot hatch which sits at the top of the range.
Golf Estate – from £26,970
If you like the Golf but reckon it’s just not quite practical enough for your needs, you should take a look at the Estate derivative.
This latest version is roomier than its predecessor, while the 611-litre boot is a great deal larger than the 380 litres you get with the regular five-door hatchback.
ID.3 – from £36,990
Volkswagen has kickstarted a new electric era, with all of its new EVs in the coming years using the ‘ID’ name. The ID.3 kicked it all off, using a bespoke EV platform that will go on to underpin a range of electric models from across the VW Group.
The ID.3 is a similar size to a Golf, yet offers a more practical and modern interior. Currently, just a single powertrain and trim is available on this VW, offering a range of up to 265 miles.
ID.4 – from £38,719
If you want an electric SUV, the Volkswagen ID.4 is a fantastic option, offering impressive levels of practicality for all the family.
Its modern inside and out adds to the appeal, while it’s available with Volkswagen’s widest line-up of trims and powertrains. It offers up to 295bhp in the case of the GTX model, along with a range of up to 328 miles.
ID.5 – from £50,625
If you want more style from your electric SUV, it’s worth taking a look at the ID.5. Essentially a coupe-styled version of the ID.4, it offers plenty of glamour in this increasingly crowded segment.
It might seem quite a lot more expensive than the ID.4, however, it’s only available with the largest 77kWh battery, which delivers a range of up to 327 miles.
ID.Buzz – from £57,115
Undoubtedly the boldest model in the VW line-up is the new ID.Buzz. Only recently arriving in dealers, it’s a reimagination of the iconic microbus, and is set to go down a storm with the brand’s loyal fan base.
Launched in a single five-seat bodystyle, this practical MPV will be joined by roomier models in the future, but currently stands out with its funky styling and generous practicality, while offering a claimed 260 miles from a charge.
T-Cross – from £22,370
Volkswagen’s most affordable new SUV is an excellent all-rounder, and one that’s particularly accomplished in the compact crossover class.
Offering plenty of practicality, including a decent-sized boot and sliding rear seats, it’s got a good safety record and is relatively well equipped too.
Taigo – from £23,385
A relatively new entry to Volkswagen’s SUV segment is the Taigo. As essentially a sleeker-looking version of the T-Cross, it offers a smart design, and only a marginal penalty when it comes to interior space.
It’s pleasant to drive, as well as being well-equipped. Both its 1.0- and 1.5-litre petrol engines offer a decent dose of performance and reasonable running costs.
T-Roc – from £26,080
Now one of Volkswagen’s most popular cars in the UK, the T-Roc is a superb small SUV that stands out with its good driving experience, fun styling and practical interior.
Along with a broad range of petrol and diesel engines, the T-Roc is also offered with a sporty R model – using a very similar setup to the Golf R, allowing for a 0-60mph time of under five seconds.
T-Roc Cabriolet – from £31,820
Perhaps the most unusual car in the VW line-up is the T-Roc Cabriolet. Yes, you can buy a drop-top version of this relatively sedate model, and it’s currently the only convertible SUV on the market.
Also now VW’s sole cabriolet model, the T-Roc is comfortable, refined and practical by convertible standards, and is an appealing choice if you want top-down thrills, but nothing overly sporty.
Tiguan – from £29,910
Another of Volkswagen’s best-sellers is the Tiguan. An ideal family SUV, it offers a great deal of interior space and is packed full of equipment and safety features.
Volkswagen offers a huge range of versions, with sporty-looking R-Line models being particularly appealing. A hot ‘R’ version sits at the top of the line-up.
Tiguan Allspace – from £34,165
If you want a seven-seat SUV, the Tiguan Allspace is the only option in Volkswagen’s line-up. An extended version of the regular Tiguan, it gains two extra seats in the boot. Though only really suitable for children, they’re useful nevertheless.
It’s not noticeably different in terms of styling to the standard Tiguan too, while retaining the standard car’s comfort and quality.
Touareg – from £55,585
Heading up Volkswagen’s line-up is the Touareg. It’s the brand’s largest SUV, and offers a particularly upmarket finish inside and out.
Packed full of technology, the Touareg is good value next to many of its competitors. Strangely, however, there’s no seven-seat option with this SUV.
Passat Estate – from £32,580
The Passat is another of Volkswagen’s long-running models, with the firm recently taking the saloon version of this family car off sale, leaving only the Estate version to choose from.
However, the Passat Estate is a terrific all-rounder with its mix of comfort, elegance and quality. A GTE plug-in hybrid is also available, offering up to 38 miles of driving on a single charge,
Arteon – from £38,660
Volkswagen injected some extra style into its brand with the Arteon – a more premium model that rivals the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.
Offering lots of space for passengers, the Arteon is a very eye-catching fastback that delivers a high-quality interior.
Arteon Shooting Brake – from £39,900
Recently the regular Arteon has been joined by a more practical Shooting Brake model, bringing estate car-like space but in a more eye-catching design than a traditional wagon.
Like the normal Arteon, this Shooting Brake is available with a huge choice of versions, including a plug-in hybrid and a 316bhp R model.
Touran – from £33,795
Last but not least in the Volkswagen line-up is the Touran. Now the brand’s only conventional MPV, this seven-seater might be getting on in age but remains an accomplished choice.
An ideal family car for those wanting to shrug off SUVs, the Touran is hugely practical, offers a high-quality interior and is impressively good to drive by MPV standards.
