The new SUV will be the smallest offered by the German firm and is expected to go on sale at the start of 2019.

Volkswagen has teased its upcoming T-Cross compact SUV by showing off the new model’s practicality in a short video.

Using two ice hockey players, Volkswagen displayed how the duo could pack all of their bulky equipment into the rear load space of the brand’s soon-to-be smallest SUV.

By moving the sliding rear bench forwards, the players were to easily pack all of their gear – such as pads, skates and sticks – into the surprisingly large boot compared to the vehicle’s compact dimensions.

Although unconfirmed, the T-Cross is expected to sit on the same platform as the Seat Arona – making it smaller than Volkswagen’s Tiguan and the T-Roc crossover.

First thought up as a concept back in 2016, the T-Cross is making its world premiere towards the end of this year, with sales expected to commence at the start of 2019.

Measuring just over four metres long, it has been confirmed that the T-Cross will come with front assist and lane assist safety systems as standard, and will be angled at younger drivers with the offer of multiple customisation options.
