Volkswagen has launched the latest model in its SUV line-up, the T-Cross. The new model is set to slot in below the T-Roc, with a more compact design better suited to the city.
It will be the smallest SUV to date for Volkswagen, and will be front-wheel drive only to satisfy the budgets of the young, small families the car is set to be marketed towards.
The T-Cross is set to feature a variety of driver assistance systems, including pedestrian monitoring, front area monitoring, emergency braking systems and emergency braking.
The T-Cross will be available with a choice of two engines in the UK, both helped on their way by turbochargers. There will be two 1.0-litre petrol units, with 94bhp and 113bhp respectively, mated to six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearboxes.

The most powerful unit will be a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine with 148bhp, while the only diesel unit – a 94bhp 1.6-litre unit – is expected to be the most economical. These two are not going to be offered in the UK initially, though Volkswagen will bring them in if demand is strong enough.
The T-Cross will share much of its underlying components with the Polo, and will be built at the same Volkswagen factory in Navarra, Spain.
The T-Cross is the latest example of what Volkswagen has called its ‘global SUV offensive’. The German marque expects half of the cars it sells to be SUVs by 2025, and is following in the footsteps of numerous other firms in its increased focus in the rapidly expanding sector.
