Volkswagen to mark Touareg milestone with new special edition

A ‘One Million’ model will celebrate the number of Touaregs built so far.

Volkswagen has announced a new special edition of its flagship Touareg SUV, to help celebrate the one millionth example rolling off the production line.

The German manufacturer’s first SUV debuted in 2002 and has become a worthy range-topper in the Volkswagen range as more and more SUVs have joined the line-up – those such as the Tiguan, T-Roc and T-Cross.

The creatively named ‘One Million’ is available in a new shade of Sechura Beige, along with the choice of 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels. Tinted rear lights, celebratory branding and further gloss black styling also helps to separate this new special edition from the rest of the Touareg range.

As for the interior, this edition comes with revised leather upholstery with contrast diamond stitching on any leather area. The key is even trimmed in leather, while the cabin also benefits from a fully-digital cockpit.

Volkswagen has only said that the trim will come with the 282bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, although it will likely also be offered with the V6 petrol engine.

UK pricing for the Touareg is still to be confirmed, although it’s available in Germany from €80,880 (£72,372).

Volkswagen’s factory in Bratislava, Croatia, is the only plant to produce the Touareg, which is built alongside the Volkswagen Group’s other upmarket SUVs – such as the Audi Q8 and Porsche Cayenne.

Prices for the standard Touareg start from £52,675 for the SE L model and rise to £59,275 for the R-Line Tech, meaning that this One Million version comes with a rather large jump in price.
