What’s new on the 2020 Ford Kuga?

A third-generation Ford Kuga is on the way — but what’s new? We take a look…

When it comes to crossovers, the Ford Kuga is right at the top of the game.

Boasting style, bags of tech and an impressive driving experience, it’s no wonder this car consistently ranks in the top-ten selling cars consistently.

A new generation is on the horizon though, which looks set to only build on this success. We take a look at what’s new…

New platform

Ford has shifted the Kuga onto its new C2 platform for its third-generation, with the promise of improved stiffness in the car and a drop in weight, too. This should result in a more efficient and more engaging machine than before.

Better yet, it allows for even more interior space — so the new Kuga will surely be a comfortable place to be in.

Fresh looks

Though the Kuga DNA remains in the new car’s styling, Ford has clearly brought a more modern look to the car. It takes on a sharper front end with the firm’s sleek yet subtly aggressive light and grille design, while the rear has a distinctive look to it.

Electrified powertrains

Such is the trend on the new car market, the new Ford Kuga will benefit from three electrified powertrains. First up, a plug-in hybrid that pairs a petrol engine with a 10.3 kWh motor — with a claimed 235mpg return on fuel.

Alongside that, a conventional ‘self-charging’ hybrid powertrain will be offered, using a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor. It’s said to be capable of 50.4mpg.

Rounding out the trio is a mild-hybrid option, linked to a 2.0-litre diesel engine. This is said to return 56.5mpg.

When can I buy one?

No exact word on when the new Ford Kuga will arrive on UK shores, though order books are likely to open towards the end of the year — with deliveries soon following from that.
