As the most compact offering in Volvo’s SUV range, the XC40 offers more youthful urban drivers a high-up model that gives them plenty of space – despite its size – and a strong level of quality that you expect from the brand. Dual-tone body colour combinations, interesting alloy designs and bright interior options are on offer, while the XC40 also gets the Sensus touchscreen infotainment system as standard. It comes with 432 litres of boot space – more than enough for your weekly shop or going further afield – and passenger space is equally excellent for a compact SUV. As the middle ground in the SUV offerings, the XC60 is crammed with technology and offers a great mix between the size of the XC90 and the youthful style of the XC40. The advanced SUV comes with some of Volvo’s top features, such as Pilot Assist that incorporates adaptive cruise control and lane assist to keep your car in the right lane and at the right speed, and is also available with the latest IntelliSafe options like blind spot monitoring, oncoming lane mitigation and braking, and lane keeping aid. It also comes with loads of room for passengers and storage. Volvo offers the XC60 with the T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid setup for cleaner driving and improved efficiency. The XC90 is the largest model Volvo has to offer and is the most luxurious one available as well. With space for up to seven people, the XC90 provides lots of room for all the family and keeps them safe, too, thanks to its wide range of safety kit – something that Volvo is an expert in among car manufacturers. As the genesis of the design ethos for current Volvos, the XC90 sets the tone for the rest of the range and also includes tech that the rest of the brand’s line-up have since adopted – such as the digital instrumentation display, the portrait infotainment display and adaptive LED headlights. XC90 models are available from £50,435.

This is the last remnant of the ‘old’ Volvo design and is the smallest model in the brand’s range. Starting from just £21,410, this is the car best suited to younger drivers who want a car with a more premium feel. Although the technology and safety isn’t quite up to the same standard as other Volvos, don’t fret as the Swedes are expected to bring a new version to market at some point in 2019, and that is set to employ the new design and technology features of the rest of the line-up.

Volvo’s largest estate and possibly the ultimate Volvo when you consider the brand’s history of providing the world with excellent station wagons. The 550-litre load space in the back is more than useful, but passengers are still well-catered for with the cavernous space in the rear. Volvo ensures its imprint for excellent safety is clear on the V90 as it comes with the City Safety autonomous braking system – like every other model – and is fitted with sensors and cameras to keep you on the straight and narrow. If you want SUV-inspired styling, Volvo has you covered with the Cross Country version that adds plastic cladding and a raised ride height. Prices for the V90 start off from £37,620.
