White is once again the top new car colour choice in Britain

Recently released figures show that white was the most popular colour choice for new car buyers in Britain last year.

White was the UK’s most popular new car colour choice in 2016, making it the fourth year in the row that this has been the case.

Statistics released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveal that 552,329 new car buyers opted to have their car in white last year. That represents a market share of 20.51 per cent.

However, while white was the most popular colour choice in 2016, demand for this choice did drop by 2.1 per cent compared to 2015. This is the first time since 2005 that demand for white cars has dropped.

The second most popular new car colour choice in 2016 was black, which was chosen by 542,862 buyers, representing a 20.16 per cent share of the market. Demand for black cars grew by 6.5 per cent last year compared to 2015.

Black was actually the most popular car colour choice in England alone, whereas white led the way in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Grey and blue were the third and fourth most popular choices respectively in regards to new car colour choices last year. 465,579 new car buyers chose grey in 2016, representing a 13 per cent market share increase compared to 2015. Blue meanwhile was picked by 414,160 new car buyers.
