XC40 becomes Volvo’s most successful model from launch

The compact SUV is selling at twice the rate that Volvo were expecting and is on track for 2,000 sales per month.

After it was brought to showrooms at the end of February, the Volvo XC40 has had the best launch of any Volvo in the UK ever – with more than 3,000 units sold since its introduction.

As the brand’s first compact SUV, the XC40 has already won the European Car of the Year and the WhatCar? Car of the Year awards for 2018 – and the First Edition versions had almost sold out by the time the model arrived on the forecourt.

The XC40 is selling at a rate of 2,000 units per month in the UK alone, and figures suggest that the model is attracting customers from brands such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Land Rover.

Volvo Car UK operations director David Baddeley said: "The XC40 is already proving to be a huge success, fuelled by the number of high-profile awards it has won recently.

“This enthusiasm is reflected in the number of early customers who have ordered their XC40, and we see this demand only increasing now the first customer cars are appearing on UK roads."

Prices for the XC40 start from £27,610, and the premium model comes with all the latest Volvo safety equipment and technology offered in models higher up in the fleet, such as the XC90 and XC60.
