5 Reasons why you should test drive the Volvo V60

It's the most dynamic Volvo to date. Find out why you should be test driving the new Volvo V60 and considering it for your next car.

Set to go on sale this summer, Volvo’s new V60 is its latest performance estate, and fits in the range below the S and V90 as a smaller, more dynamic alternative to the excellent XC60 SUV.

But with traditional sectors of the market such as saloons and estate cars becoming less popular in modern times, is there still a reason you should consider a Sports estate such as the V60? Indeed, there are many, and the latest Volvo wagon encapsulates them all.

Here are five major reasons why the new V60 should be on your shopping list…

It’s a Volvo estate

Corny as it sounds, Volvo are the masters when it comes to making estate cars and have been for 50 years, so it’s no surprise that the V60 is one of the most spacious, practical and well thought-out cars in its class.

Admittedly, it doesn’t have the load swallowing capacity of Volvo estates of old, but the boot is still good for 529-litres of usable load space otherwise, and beats rivals such as the Audi A4 Avant and BMW 3-Series Touring hands-down. Besides, how many times do you need to transport a grandfather clock, anyway?

The interior is stunning

As far as interior styling goes, the current Volvo range is probably the absolute benchmark in the premium sector, with a great combination of modern and traditional styling and light-coloured plastics and leathers, which give the entire cockpit a real sense of airiness.

But there’s more to it than that, with a sense of high quality to go with the great looks, with tactile materials that have an upmarket feel to them throughout the car and an ultra-modern central display screen, with Volvo’s ‘SENSUS’ technology that reacts to touches of the screen, gestures and voice commands.

It’s loaded with tech

SENSUS is juts one of the V60’s cool features. Compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G, it is controlled by a 9.3-inch touch screen that combines car functions such as satellite navigation, connected services, entertainment apps and climate settings.

Other tech features are geared towards passenger security, with Volvo’s City Safety system with Autobrake technology using radar and camera systems to help avoid potential collisions. It’s the first semi-autonom0us tech that can recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, such as deer, says Volvo. It can automatically attempt to steer around obstacles or apply emergency braking.

Meanwhile, Pilot Assist supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking, using autonomous drive features on well-marked roads at speeds of up to 80 mph.

The V60 also comes with Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering-assistance systems. Optional Cross Traffic Alert with Autobrake acts as an extra pair of eyes and helps prevent a driver reversing into an obstacle.

It’s the best driving Volvo ever

Despite all the features aimed at making the V60 do a lot of the driving itself, it’s also the most dynamically able Volvo ever produced, a fact hinted at by its XC60 sister car when it debuted earlier this year, but which is underlined when on a lower chassis, with quicker steering. Yes, the V60 is an estate car, but it’s also a compact executive car with a superb ride and handling characteristics that are more than a match for a BMW.

You can buy it through CARE by Volvo

The V60 will be the second car available on CARE by Volvo, which was first seen on the XC40 crossover. CARE by Volvo is a subscription service – you pay a deposit and then a fixed monthly amount, which gets you the car along with essentials such as servicing, roadside assistance, insurance and more.

But it offers a lot more than that, from a concierge to help you at the touch of a button to technology that turns your car into your own Wi-Fi hotspot. It’s clever stuff, and a whole new way of buying a car.

You can find out more about CARE by Volvo here.
