First Brit-bound Ford Mustang rolls off the line

The first new Ford Mustangs in right-hand drive bound for the UK for the first time ever have officially rolled off the line at Ford’s production plant in Michigan.

Since order books opened in January this year, Ford says that nearly 2,000 orders for the latest version of the world’s most iconic pony car have been taken from eager buyers.

In fact, it’s proven so popular that a Ford spokesman said last month that buyers in Britain are now facing waiting lists of up to a year if they place an order for the Mustang now.

First introduced more than five decades ago, the Mustang has excited fans worldwide ever since, even becoming the most-liked car on Facebook, but has never before been available in the UK.

Despite having been available in the US for a while, first deliveries for UK buyers are due to begin from this November, with Ford stepping up production to meet the high demand.

This far, 80 per cent of customers have specified the fastback body style, while 70 per cent have chosen the iconic 5.0-litre V8 engine over the new 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost.

According to Ford, more than half have also been specified with the Custom Pack, which adds on sat-nav, a 12-speaker audio system and heated front seats, plus a rear-view camera and Luster Nickle alloys.

Available to order in the UK now, prices for the new Ford Mustang start from £29,995 for the EcoBoost-powered model, while the V8 option starts from £33,995.
