Here is the 2018 BMW Z4 concept

The new third-generation BMW Z4 sports car has been previewed with the reveal of a stylish concept model.

BMW has revealed a concept version of the new Z4 sports car which hints at the design cues the production version of the sports car could carry. Reports indicate the new Z4 will eventually go on sale in the UK during the middle of next year.

Making its public bow at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event in California, the concept hints at a very different design for the new Z4 compared to its predecessor.

While unsurprisingly not everything on the concept will make it to the production model, it’s reported that around 80 per cent of its design will be carried over.

The concept for the third-generation Z4 roadster features a longer wheelbase and wider tracks than the previous BMW sports car.

Design highlights include the long bonnet, wide kidney grilles, the low shark-nosed front end with a touch of carbon fibre creating a front spoiler feature and wide L-shaped LED taillights. Inside the Z4 concept, the dashboard uses exclusively digital displays.

BMW are keeping quiet in regards what engines feature for the new Z4 but numerous online reports indicate it will initially offer 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre petrol engines. A hybrid powertrain and performance-enhanced M derivative are both possibilities in the future as well.

The new BMW Z4 is being developed as part of a technical partnership with Toyota, with the latter developing the next-generation Supra.

The Supra will share the same platform, engines and transmission as the new Z4, but whereas the Toyota will be strictly a hardtop coupe model, the new Z4 is expected to remain exclusively a roadster with a folding fabric roof.
