Jenson Button’s Ford GT is available to buy

A Ford GT supercar which was in the past used by ex-Formula 1 champion Jenson Button is available to buy at an auction which allows online participants.

A Ford GT supercar which has previously been owned by the ex-Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has become available to buy at an auction.

The GT is one of several sports cars featuring at the Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car sale, which is taking place on 25th and 26th February. Cars like the GT will be available for bidding both online and in person at the auction.

The Ford GT was produced between 2004 and 2006 as a spiritual successor to the legendary GT40 race car. This road-legal supercar was a rarity in Britain and other nearby countries, as only 101 examples were supplied to European customers.

This particular GT being auctioned is a 2005 model which is carrying an estimate value of £250,000 to £300,000 ahead of its sale later this month. The GT model was just one of five European examples marked ‘VIP’ by the Ford National Sales Company. It was allocated to the Formula 1 racer Jenson Button in May 2005, and the British former world champion took delivery of the car a few months later.

Button owned this GT until 2011, when it was then purchased by Silverstone Auctions. The V8 supercar’s odometer says it has so far travelled 8,350 miles in total. Whoever wins the auction bid for this GT will get history files related to the supercar, including copies of the order form signed by its famous former owner Button.

A new, second-generation Ford GT is deep into development and deliveries of the new supercar are expected to take place during this year.
