More details on McLaren’s three-seater Hyper-GT revealed

New details and images have been revealed on McLaren’s upcoming ‘Hyper-GT’ car, which is currently codenamed the BP23 and is a three-seater like the iconic McLaren F1 supercar.

The new McLaren hypercar, which is expected to arrive in 2019, will have a highly-curvaceous body as evidenced by newly published images showing the car’s rear. The car comes with a swopping rear end complete with a rear diffuser and thin LED taillights.

Expected to be constructed out of shrink-wrapped carbon fibre, the Hyper-GT will have one of the lightest bodies ever made for a McLaren road car. Vertical doors, also known as butterfly doors or dihedral doors, are also expected to feature, much like they do on other McLaren cars. The doors will reportedly be powered for the first time for extra convenience.

The McLaren BP23 Hyper-GT will use a hybrid powertrain likely to combine a powerful electric motor with the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 found in the recently-revealed McLaren 720S supercar.

While the BP23 will have the performance figures to rival (if not surpass) the spectacular McLaren P1, it is at the same time being designed to be more comfortable on longer driving journeys than your typical hypercar.

The battery pack in the BP23 will be improved compared to that used in the P1. The aim is for the hybrid system to be more powerful than what McLaren has achieved before, but also lighter at the same time. The electric motor and battery pack used in the Hyper-GT is expected to trickle down to other McLaren products in the future.

Only 106 examples of the BP23 Hyper-GT will be made and each has already been pre-ordered. Those who successfully applied to get one have already been notified and each car is estimated to cost around £2 million.
