Tesla Model S adds two cheaper versions

Tesla has revealed an updated version of its Model S range with two lower priced derivatives.

Designed to make the fully-electric Model S accessible to more customers, the new models are called the 60 and the 60 D and are priced from £53,400 and £57,800 respectively. They will go on sale near the end of this year.

The Model S 60 may be seen as an entry-level car but it has a projected travel range of 248 miles, can reach 130mph and go from zero to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds.

The performance of the Model S 60 and 60D can be improved if owners download a software update available for the car’s 75kWh power unit, which can be accessed via Wi-Fi.

As well as the new, cheaper derivatives, the Tesla Model S range also has a facelift with a blanked-off front end, along with other changes that were revealed earlier this year.

The interior gets two extra wood finishes, called Figured Ash Wood and Dark Ash Wood, and a new HEPA air filtration system is also added. Also available in Tesla’s Model X crossover, the new system is reported to be 100 times more effective than a regular cabin filter.

The standard charger for the Model S also been changed from 40 amps to 48 amps, allowing for quicker rechargers when using Tesla’s Supercharger network.
