Vauxhall renames yellow paint job to support vandalised Corsa owner

Vauxhall has renamed its yellow exterior paint job for its Corsa as a show of support for a man who hit the headlines earlier this year when his own Corsa was vandalised.

Peter Maddox, an 84-year-old pensioner who lives in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bibury, had his yellow Corsa vandalised following complaints from tourists that his car was ‘ruining’ pictures of Arlington Row. The place is a popular area for photography and is also where Maddox lives with his Corsa parked outside his home.

After having been accused of ‘photobombing’ tourists’ pictures of Arlington Row, vandals went as far as to smash the windows of Maddox’s Corsa and scratch the word ‘move’ into the bonnet.

While Maddox considered getting a lime green Corsa to replace his damaged yellow one, he gave in to fear of reprisals and bought a grey replacement instead. He bought the replacement with the money he got from the insurance pay-out he received when his yellow one was written off.

In a show of support for Maddox, a Facebook group has organised a convoy that’ll see 100 yellow cars from across the country join forces in a show of solidarity to Peter and drive through Bibury on Saturday 1st April. The drive is described as the UK’s biggest ever ‘Bright Yellow Car Convoy’. Sponsorship money raised by the drive will go towards Maddox’s chosen charity.

Vauxhall will attend the event, bringing some yellow Corsa models with them. Additionally, Vauxhall says they’ve renamed the Corsa’s yellow finish to ‘Maddox Yellow’ in a show of support for the pensioner.

The British car brand has also given him a service package which will ensure the vehicle stays in ‘mint’ condition.
