Aston Martin unveils new twin-turbo V12 for the DB11

Aston Martin has released a video detailing its new 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine which is expected to power the upcoming DB11.

The follow-up to the DB9, the DB11 will be the first model in a series of relaunches for all of Aston’s core models and it’s expected to be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this March.

No details about how much power the new V12 will produce have been released yet, though it’s predicted to have an output of around 600bhp, putting it ahead of the current 568bhp Vanquish.

End of the naturally-aspirated Aston

It’s rumoured that the new engine has been developed from the same 6.0-litre motor that powers the Vanquish, though the addition of the turbos will spell an end to naturally aspirated Astons.

Prototype models spotted testing have reportedly been seen with intercooler switches on board as manufacturers increasingly opt for turbocharged engines in a bid to cut emissions.

Back in 2013, Aston Martin signed an agreement with Mercedes AMG to share powertrain technology, though the marque has stressed that the new engine will be all its own work.

DB11 due out later this year

However, it’s expected that the new DB11 will share a dash display and central interface with the new Mercedes S-Class, though it’s not clear yet whether Aston will develop its own display designs.

Aston Martin’s new sports car will bear the DB11 moniker after the DB10 name was used for the latest James Bond film SPECTRE, and it’s due to be released towards the end of this year.

Pricing details are as of yet unconfirmed, though given that the current DB9 is priced from just over £152,000, the new DB11 is expected to cost in and around £170,000.
