Servicing a Ford GT won’t be like a Fiesta

Ford dealerships will have to make a significant investment if they want to service the upcoming Ford GT supercar, including a dedicated ‘clean room’ akin to an operating theater.

Leaked documents show GT-certified showrooms are likely to be few and far between, because a number of steps must be taken before working on the most expensive model in Ford’s history.

For a start, a ‘clean room’ will be off limits to all but certified Ford Master Technicians trained to service the GT. These technicians will be trained by Multimatic, the Canadian company building the GT to carry out servicing and maintenance. For more complex repairs a Multimatic representative is likely to be sent to the dealership, while badly damaged GTs will be sent back to Multimatic’s Ontario HQ.

Not only that, but Ford dealerships wishing to work on the road-going version of the car, which just won the 24hrs of Le Mans, will also need to buy an enclosed trailer. This will be used to transport the supercar to and from customers.

Thanks to its carbon fibre tub and ground-hugging aerodynamic bodywork, dealers will also require special tools and techniques just to lift the GT off the ground. Getting it wrong could easily result in a six-figure crunch. Eeek.
